Living well through menopause

Menopause does not have to be a struggle. Hot flashes, disturbed sleep, declining energy. It is a physiological process. Here is what truly helps, without hormones.

What changes in your body

Before the age of 45, your ovaries produce a stable hormonal cocktail: oestrogens and progesterone, in a predictable cycle. Starting from perimenopause (40-50 years on average) and then menopause (around 51 years), this production decreases, becomes irregular, and then stops. This is not a disease - it is a normal physiological transition.

But this transition is accompanied by very tangible symptoms: hot flashes (for 70 to 80% of women according to the SFEDP), fragmented sleep (night awakenings, sweating), mood swings, underlying fatigue, and changes in the skin. It is not in your head. These are direct effects of the decrease in oestrogen on your hypothalamus, your sleep, and your skin tissue.

Food supplements do not replace hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or medical supervision. They can support daily discomforts, particularly for those who do not wish to, cannot, or do not need to undergo HRT.

The 3 natural levers

1. Phytoestrogens - supporting hormonal balance

Phytoestrogens are plant compounds (soy isoflavones, red clover, common sage) whose structure resembles that of human oestrogens. They can bind to oestrogen receptors and exert a mild modulatory effect. A 2016 JAMA meta-analysis (Franco et al., 27 327 802) shows a moderate reduction in hot flashes with phytoestrogens vs placebo.

What we recommend: Alpx Meno - sage, soy standardised in isoflavones, red clover, vitamin B6 (which contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity).

2. Sleep - verbena, valerian, melatonin

If you wake up at 3 a.m., sweating, with your heart racing, and cannot get back to sleep before 5 a.m. - you are not alone. This is one of the most reported symptoms in perimenopause. Melatonin (at 1 mg before bedtime) contributes to the reduction of time taken to fall asleep. Verbena and valerian are plants traditionally used to promote quality sleep.

What we recommend: Alpx Bedtime - melatonin 1 mg + verbena + valerian + California poppy.

3. Skin beauty - collagen + vitamin C

The decrease in oestrogen is also visible on the skin: loss of elasticity, dryness, more pronounced wrinkles within 5 years following menopause (study PMID 31627309). Hydrolysed marine collagen provides bioactive peptides; vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin.

What we recommend: Alpx Elegance, which was the subject of a randomised, placebo-controlled clinical study on 60 women for 12 weeks: +21% skin hydration, +17% firmness, -14% wrinkle depth vs placebo. See the full study.

What women who follow this protocol are saying

"52 years old, right in the middle of perimenopause, I was waking up between 2 and 4 a.m. drenched in sweat almost every night. I started Meno + Bedtime two months ago. The hot flashes are rarer, and especially less intense. And I fall back asleep when they happen - that's the real change. My husband is happy too."

- Catherine, 52, Bordeaux

"My gynaecologist advised against HRT for family reasons. I was lost. I came across Alpx while searching for 'serious menopause supplements' (I needed written dosages, not empty promises). Three months on Meno + Elegance: less fatigue, and my skin is coming back to life. I'm continuing."

- Sylvie, 55, Lyon

"I have been post-menopausal for 4 years. I thought there was nothing more to be done - the doctor had told me 'that's just how it is, you will get used to it'. Well, no. With Elegance my skin is better than it was at 55, and with Bedtime I finally sleep 7 hours. Natural support, not a miracle, just what is needed."

- Marie-France, 58, Geneva

Important: speak to your doctor

If your symptoms are intense (very frequent hot flashes, chronic sleep disorders, depression, severe joint pain, debilitating vaginal dryness, cardiovascular issues that appeared after the age of 50), consult your general practitioner or your gynaecologist. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or another medical treatment may be indicated - it is your doctor who must evaluate this with you, based on your medical history and your risks.

Alpx supplements are a complementary daily support, not a medical replacement when treatment is necessary. They are compatible with most HRTs, but always inform your doctor of everything you are taking - this is the basic principle.
